Mathwood is a boutique consulting company engaged in community-based microfinance.
Brett Matthews, principal and microfinance specialist, blends strong Canadian credit union experience with extensive hands-on experience building financial institutions in the villages of the developing world.
Brett has extensive practical field exposure to a wide range of village-based financial intermediaries around the world, from village banks and credit unions to ‘investment clubs’, ASCAs and self-help groups.
The company’s mission is to help the world’s poorest billion rural people
gain access to microfinance. Aid programs and microcredit institutions have experienced difficulty
delivering quality financial services to this talented but remote population.
Priority is placed on the rights of poor people as shareholders and depositors.
Mathwood also engages in R&D initiatives and pilot projects to extend the frontiers of people’s banking capabilities in communities where most people cannot read or write.
