Canadian
social and environmental resolutions reach 13 this year, up from two
in 2002
In
2003, there have been 13 Canadian shareholder proposals on social
and environmental issues, up from only two a year earlier.
This is according to information published in “2003 Shareholder
Proposals Submitted to Canadian Corporations,” compiled by the
Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE). The
report is an annual summary of shareholder proposals at Canadian
corporations.
“We
predicted that the number of resolutions would rise dramatically
during the last few years,” said SIO Executive Director Eugene
Ellmen. “This is largely a result of the changes two years ago to
the Canada Business Corporations Act, which make it easier for
investors to have a voice.”
