
The
public is invited to attend a public forum on Nov. 20, entitled The
Kyoto Protocol: What it means for investment. The forum will
bring together a leading researcher, analyst and portfolio manager
to discuss the implications of global warming on investment.
The
forum is to be held at the Sanford Fleming Building, room 1105, at
the University of Toronto,
10 King's College Road (Off College, west of University) in Toronto.
It will begin at 7pm. Admission is free.
The
forum will feature a panel discussion by Matthew Kiernan, Executive
Managing Director, Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, Martin
Grosskopf, Sustainability Analyst with Acuity Funds Management and
Andrew Preston, Head of SRI for Glasgow-based Aberdeen Asset
Management.
Among
the topics to be covered are the investment risks and opportunities
presented by global warming and the Kyoto Accord.
Recently,
Innovest completed a report for the United Nations Environment
Programme Financial Initiative (UNEP FI), which concluded
that climate change poses a major risk for the financial
industry. A blend of market mechanisms and public policies are
necessary to address the problem.
The
forum is sponsored by the Social Investment Organization in
conjunction with the SIO's annual general meeting. The public is
also invited to attend the AGM, which will is scheduled to be held
at the same location at 5:30.
