On Oct.1, The Ethical Funds
Company launched the Ethical Monthly Income Fund and Ethical
Canadian Index Fund, saying they are targeted to Canadian investors
who think it's important to balance their values with their
investment decisions.
"The launch of these funds
shows our continued commitment to leading the sustainable investment
marketplace in Canada," says Don Rolfe, President and CEO.
The Ethical Monthly Income Fund
is a balanced fund focused on providing investors with a steady flow
of income, which will be paid monthly. As such, it is suitable for
investors who are concerned with generating regular income without
eroding capital.
The Ethical Canadian Index Fund
tracks the new Ethical Canadian Index. The Index matches, as
closely as possible, the weightings of the individual investments
within the S&P Total Return Composite Index. However, it
excludes those companies that fail to meet The Ethical Funds
Company's Core Sustainable Investing Values, which are assessed
using their Corporate Sustainability Scorecard.
In launching the funds, Rolfe
cited "some significant changes to the way we approach our
business," referring to a number of key strategic initiatives
that the company has undertaken since he became CEO a year ago.
“We have evolved the broader
definition of socially responsible investing to instead focus on the
sustainable corporation, believing that environmental, social, and
corporate governance issues affect shareholder value in both the
short and the long term," he said. "The newly
launched Ethical Canadian Index will provide an appropriate tool to
measure the effect of sustainability on the capital markets."
He also said the company has
revitalized its investment process in alignment with this long term
focus. "The objective for our investment funds is to earn
consistent rates of return that are above median in each of our fund
categories, at consistently below-median management expense
ratios," Rolfe says.
"The company has
re-engineered the way we mange our portfolio managers to ensure that
we meet these objectives."
