The
Social Investment Organization and Pensions at Work have received
funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
to compile an inventory of global public policy and responsible
investment. Researchers
will also examine the public policy environment in Canada, and
assess Canada's strengths and weaknesses vis-à-vis Canada's
global competitors.
Some of the public policy areas for
research include:
- Pension and mutual fund disclosure and governance
- Accounting standards and guidelines
- Tax policy and sustainable investment
- Sustainable economic development and infrastructure
Corporate disclosure and governance
“It is more important than ever
that socially responsible investors have knowledge of public
policy initiatives around the world to encourage investment
transparency and responsibility,” said Eugene Ellmen, Executive
Director of the Social Investment Organization.
“This knowledge is critical as
demand grows for a single securities regulator in Canada. As
Canada moves toward a single regulator it will be important that
our securities laws reflect global standards on responsible
investment governance and disclosure.”
The report is scheduled for
completion by June 2007.
