The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) advocates for Canadian policies and programs that will eliminate global poverty and promote sustainable human development. It also seeks to strengthen the role of the voluntary sector in development co-operation.

The Council comprises more than 100 Canadian non-profit organizations working in Canada and overseas. Among them are religious and secular development groups, professional associations, labour unions and groups devoted to literacy, education or youth . Their volunteers and supporters live
all over Canada. CCIC member organizations work with co-operatives, citizens groups and NGOs in Africa, Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe to:
Improve local access to safe water, sanitation, food, shelter, education and primary health care;
Promote equitable distribution of global resources and respect for human rights;
Press for corporate social responsibility and environmentally sustainable development;
Encourage citizen participation in government policy-making, and;
Conduct policy research and campaign for global food security, macro-economic reform, debt relief, fair trade, child welfare, land reform and improved labour standards.

In 1998 CCIC and its members launched a Canada-wide campaign called “In common: Global Action  Against Poverty” that seeks to mobilize Canadians in a single unstinting effort to end poverty. The  centrepiece of the campaign is a 10-point international policy agenda.

CCIC members organizations must adhere to a Code of Ethics that governs their administration,  financial management and public communications.
